Carole J. Massey, 68, of Parsonsburg, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was born January 10, 1944 in Parsonsburg, daughter of Evelyn Hastings Bunting of Parsonsburg and the late James Bunting. Carole and her husband, Harvey owned and operated the Village Inn in Parsonsburg for 21 years. For the past number of years she has enjoyed her work as a baker at the North Salisbury Walmart. She also enjoyed baking sweets for her family and friends. Being creative with her hands, she loved to draw and paint and enjoyed needlepoint crafts. Her life revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid cat lover. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Harvey A. Massey; 3 daughters, Sherry Cook (Michael) of Salisbury, Sandra L. Hill of Salisbury and Heather Smith (Marcus) of Virginia Beach, VA; 7 grandchildren, Kevin Cook, Bryan Cook, John Hill, Danielle Hill, Camden Smith, Skyler Smith and Zoey Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, Brandi Cook-Coleman and Gavin Cook; 3 sisters, Martha Ewell of Pittsville, Kay Perdue of Salisbury and Sue Bunting of Parsonsburg; 2 brothers, Ricky Bunting of San Diego, CA and Burt Bunting of Delmar; and a cousin, who was like a sister to her, Marilyn Prota. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly; and a special aunt, Carolyn Hastings Parker. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor John Wright will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 208, Parsonsburg, MD 21849.
