Obituary

Carole Vollmerhausen Betro, 80, of Hebron, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. She was born May 13, 1942, in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Maurice John Vollmerhausen and Eileene Akers Vollmerhausen. Carole graduated from Howard High School with the class of 1960. In her early years, she started working as a teller for Citizens Bank in Laurel, Maryland and moved her way up to retire as vice president of the Operational Center in the proof department for what was then called Mercantile Bank in Linthicum. She was an active member of the State of Maryland VFW Auxiliary for 57 years, where she was past department president and currently served as treasurer. She was also a long-time member of the Delmar VFW Auxiliary, Post 8276. All that knew Carole knew of her love for her "Tigger" collection and memorabilia and even got inspiration from Tigger's inspiring words. She will be remembered for having a big heart, a ton of determination, a loving, strong character and unwavering dedication to her family, the Auxiliary of the VFW and her community. She is survived by her son, Steve Olsen and wife Terry of Clewiston, Florida; step daughter, Theresa Kane and husband Larry ; step son, Richard Betro and wife Linda; a special grandson, who was like a son to her, Scott Hanixman; 9 other grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; and a sister, Patsy. She is also survived by her auxiliary family, especially her girls who she considered her adopted daughters, Sandi Kriebel and husband Paul of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Jackie Kimball and husband Tom of Salisbury, Maryland and Libby Dalla Tezza and husband John of Keymar, Maryland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Bruno W. "Bud" Betro, who passed in 2007; and a sister, Vickie. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00, with an auxiliary service to take place at 7:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with a service to begin at 11:00.
