Carol Marie Miller Cugler, 81, of Salisbury, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and she was the daughter of the late W.J. Rudolph Miller and Frances Caroline (Clara) Blank Miller. Her family moved to Maryland when she was nine months of age. Raised in Salisbury, MD, she graduated from Wicomico Senior High School and later furthered her education, where she earned her degree in Medical Record Administration. Upon graduation, she worked for the Chris-Craft Corporation for four years and then for the State of Maryland for 30-1/2 years. Having served the Pine Bluff State Hospital and the Holly Center, she retired from her career as a Medical Records Administrator for the State of Maryland in June 1995. After retirement, she worked for several years at the Ward Museum in Salisbury. She was an avid supporter of the Museum and was happy to be a part of the Ward Museum family. Carol was an avid reader and amateur photographer. She was interested in the arts and loved to write, create handwritten cards, visit museums, and attend the theatre and symphony. She was a very caring individual and was well known for doing kind deeds and helping take care of others. Each day, she did something that would brighten someone's day. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury and St. Stephen's Church in Delmar. Her greatest passion in life was traveling. She and Clarke had a keen interest in history, architecture and other cultures: they began taking extensive trips throughout Europe after Clarke retired in 1983. They visited 23 countries and toured them in-depth, spending 3 to 4 weeks in each country. They also traveled extensively throughout most of the U.S. She fell in love with the "wild West" and looked forward to their annual trip to Montana. Carol had a huge place in her heart for animals, not just their own dogs and cats, but loved on the neighborhood pets as well. Their move to Schumaker Manor in Salisbury in 2001 was perfect for Carol and she enjoyed leisurely nature through the park to appreciate nature and loved the convenience of being close to all of the amenities Salisbury has to offer. The walls of their home are adorned with many framed pictures that she captured during their adventures in Europe. She is survived by her husband, H. Clarke Cugler of Salisbury; one sister, Gwen M. Meinster of Salisbury; a stepson, Keith Clarke Cugler (Denise) of Dagsboro; a daughter-in-law, Jerrann "Annie" C. Cugler of Crisfield; a granddaughter, Jamie Cugler Emely (Erik) of Crisfield; a great granddaughter, Emma Grace Cugler Emely of Crisfield; and special, long-time friends, John and Sandra McMullen of Delmar. Carol and Sandy were well known as "Sisters of the Heart." She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Claire M. Travers and Janet Argo, her brother, Rudolph R. Miller, and stepson, John Clifford "Cliff" Cugler. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:00 at Calvary Baptist Church, 337 Tilghman Road, Salisbury, MD, where funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, it was Carol's request that people just "pay it forward." Give an extra tip to your waitserver, buy someone a meal, write a nice note to someone, etc. Simply perform an extra act of kindness. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
