Brenda Sue Townsend, 77, of Whaleyville, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at TidalHealth-Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury. She was born February 21, 1943 in Boissevain, Virginia, a daughter of the late Adam F. Collins and Lena (Wolfe) Collins. Brenda graduated from North Caroline High School with the class of 1961. She happily married the love of her life, Wesley, on July 19, 1962 and together they shared almost 59 years of marriage. Brenda worked several places in the Salisbury Mall, but her most important job was that of a wonderful spouse and mother. She enjoyed caring for her animals and loved them all the same, whether they were her dogs, cats or birds. She also enjoyed the flowers and was a wonderful cook. She was a faithful member of the Whaleyville United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir and looked forward to the cantata. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and friend to many. She is survived by her husband, Wesley Everett Townsend; a brother, Bobby Collins of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Carmen Ann Good of Denton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Wade Townsend; sisters, Nona Gay Wagner, Peggy Polumbo, Lylas Gottwald and Fern Darling; and brothers, Rex Collins and Pete Collins. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. The Reverend Terry Fort will officiate.
