Obituary

DELMAR- Brenda June Smart, 66, of Delmar, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born September 22, 1949 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late George Merrill Collins, Sr. and Lillian Pearl (Shockley) Collins. Brenda graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1967. She was a long time, active member of First Baptist Church of Delmar, where she was a member of the choir for many years and the Baptist Young Women's group. She was days away from retirement from her job with the State of Maryland Unemployment Office and also had years of experience working in human resources with Wicomico County. She also spent her younger years working for various companies like Hoffman and LaRoche, Salisbury Baptist Temple and Duo Sofa. Brenda was a giver and a leader in the Delmar community, always giving freely of her time to help those in need and served as secretary for over 10 years for the Bi-State Ruritan club and was a member of the Delmar VFW Post 8276 Ladies Auxiliary. She was well known and loved for her bright smile and big heart and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. In addition to her family, she was also very passionate about bowling and bingo. She is survived by her husband, Russell H. Smart; a daughter, Cameo Green of Florida; a son, Russell R. Smart and his wife Danielle of Delmar; grandsons, Dawkins and Trenton Smart; sisters, Cinda Allison and Cathy Lou Helgeson; brothers, Jerry Dean Collins, Alexander Victor Collins, Gary Ray Collins, Hiram Percipal Collins and Zeke Elias Collins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Lee Collins, Mister Merrill Collins and George Lee Collins, Jr and Betty Jean Collins, who both passed as infants. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Allen Memorial Baptist Church, 1303 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 12:00. Pastors Barry Devine and Oren Perdue will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
