Obituary

Bondelyne Marie "Bonni" Bennett, 70, of Delmar, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was born on November 6, 1947 in Troy, New York, a daughter of the late Theodore and Gretchen Bennett. Bonni was employed by National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland during the 1970s. After she left NIH she went to work as a legal secretary for Richard Pennington in a law firm in Washington, DC. A bit later in her career Bonni held a position with the Surgeon General's Office in Rockville, Maryland where she had the opportunity to work closely with C. Everett Koop on the report 'AIDS, the Surgeon General, and the Politics of Public Health.' Bonni was always an avid appreciator of music, 'Doo Wop' being one of her favorite genres. Back in the day she was an excellent 'Jitter Bug' and 'Cha Cha' dancer as well. Bonni came by her love of music naturally as her mother and father were both very musical. Bonni possessed an artistic flare too. She enjoyed working with acrylics, watercolors and charcoal. She is survived by a sister, Wendi Jenkins of Macon, Georgia; 2 grand-daughters, Madison Gregory and Delaney Peters of Delmar, Maryland; 2 nieces, Aimee Jenkins and Deborah Dorough of Macon, Georgia; 3 great nieces, Scarlet, Addison and Brooklyn of Macon, Georgia; and son-in-law, Michael Peters of Delmar, Maryland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Emily; and brother-in-law, Gary Dorough. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, DE. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate.
