Obituary

Blanche Elizabeth Adkins, 91, formerly of the Hebron area, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 9, 1923 in Delmar, a daughter of the late George Emory Wilkins and Tina Mae (Parsons) Wilkins. Blanche was a long time member of Charity United Methodist Church in Salisbury. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, she raised and nurtured her family while living on farms in the Delmar and Hebron areas. She used her gifts of compassion and giving by volunteering at Salisbury Genesis Nursing Home, Salvation Army and for many years worked the booths at the Hebron VFD carnival. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed feeding her family and friends. Some of her specialties were her fried chicken, sweet potato biscuits and vegetable soup. Her true passion and her life's purpose was taking care of her family and she adored all children. She also loved the outdoors and could often be found tending her flowers, doing yard work, and caring for the farm animals. She is survived by a son, G. Woodrow "Woodie" Adkins (Doris) of Cedarburg, WI; 3 daughters, Elizabeth A. Moore (Michael) of Georgetown, Bernice A. Vickers (Barry) of Salisbury and Betty A. English (Bill) of Riverton; grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as "Mom-Mom," "Granny" and "Gran", Elaine Adkins Wilcox, Grant Woodrow Adkins, Carl Robert Perkins, Holly Beth Jarvis, George W. Vickers, Melody L. Hennessey, Keith W. English, Kevin R. English, and her late grandson, Wm. Todd English; great grandchildren, Natalie, Laura, Anna, Ava, Mitchell, Matthew, Shane, Joshua, Megan and Madison; and a great-great granddaughter, Madie. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Marshall of Mardela Springs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Woodrow Wilson Adkins, who passed in 1999, her parents, and her siblings; Mary Bradford, Lola Adkins, Margaret Taylor, Raleigh Wilkins, and Lena Morgan. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Interment will follow at Riverton Cemetery. Her grandchildren plan to honor her memory by serving as pallbearers.
