Betty Catherine Smith, 93, of Delmar, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Born and raised in Delmar, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Anna Nichols. Mrs. Smith was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Delmar where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a fantastic cook and will be remembered for the Maryland biscuits she made for her family and church. The family will always treasure her wonderful meals and beautiful memories. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Smith will be dearly missed by her daughter, Mary Mills Libengood and her husband Jim of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Robert Mills, III and his wife Wendi, of Eden, Marla Parsons and her husband Dan of Salisbury, Marvin Smith, Jr. of Delmar, and Christine Cannon of Delmar; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith of Delmar. Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and additional family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Smith; two sons, Marvin L. Smith, Sr., and Ernest H. Smith; three sisters, Pearl Lecates, Roberta Marvel and Georgia Massey; and a brother, Howard Nichols. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011, at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 2:30 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship in the church hall at the Delmar Wesleyan Church, 800 East Street in Delmar.
