Betty Jean Smart "Jeanie" of Mardela Springs, MD, surrounded by her loving family, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 69. Jeanie was born January 18, 1955 in Salisbury, MD and a daughter of the late William Gillis and Helen Marie (Pusey) Knowles. She graduated from Mardela High School with the class of '73. Shortly after graduation, she married her one and only love, Frankie Smart of Whitesville, MD and together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage. She loved raising her family, keeping God in their lives and taking care of their home. Jeanie cherished her family and holiday gatherings. Jeanie was a lifelong member of Faith Baptist Church of Delmar, MD where she served as the organist for 58 years. She was a true giver who would do anything for her family, friends, church, and community. Jeanie had a love for crab cakes, shrimp, chocolate covered cherries, Zero and 3 Musketeers bars and rice pudding. She could always be found outdoors in her bare feet. Jeanie also found solace in simple pleasures like crabbing, gardening and peaceful trips to Chincoteague. Jeanie will forever be remembered by her devoted husband, Franklin "Frankie" Smart, and cherished children: Angel Smart, April Liciaga (Frankie), Allen Smart and Adam Smart. Her legacy continues on through her grandchildren: Tre'von Robinson and Tamira Church, and great grandchildren: Annibel, Ny'imi, Landon, Michael, and Aramis. She leaves behind sisters Shirley Givens (Steve) and Sharon Knowles (Walt Smakulski), as well as a niece, Heather Morley and nephews Doug Jones and Mark Jones. In addition to her parents, Jeanie was preceded in death by a sister Linda Lambert and a nephew Kenny Jones. A celebration of Jeanie's life will be held at the Faith Baptist Church in Delmar, MD on Saturday, April 27, 2024, where family and friends can visit from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a service to follow. Pastor Paul Hall will officiate the service with interment to follow at Riverton Cemetery in Mardela Springs, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jeanie's memory to Faith Baptist Church, 1207 E. State Street, Delmar, MD 21875.
