Betty P. LaPorte, 90, currently of the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, and formerly of Claymont and Wilmington, Delaware, died on Friday, February 18, 2011. She was born November 26, 1920, in Parma Heights, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy and Diana Painting. Mrs. LaPorte was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Wilmington, where she served with the vestry and the Women of Grace. She was a Worthy Matron of the Radiant Chapter 6, Order of the Eastern Star. She also delivered Meals on Wheels in the New Castle area. She is survived by her children, Diana Young and her husband Thomas of Laurel, Ronald LaPorte and Cindy Lach of Bridgeville, Bruce LaPorte and his wife Maureen of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jacob LaPorte of New York City and Nicole LaPorte of Bellefont, De. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. LaPorte, Jr. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713, or the Employee Appreciation Fund, Seaford Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE 19973. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington, De. Family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Emily S. Gibson will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Manor House Fellowship Hall in Seaford. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
