Obituary

Betty Jo Hastings, of Delmar passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born in Stockton, Maryland, a daughter of the late James and Thelma Ward. Betty was an animal lover and horse trainer for many years. She was very active in the horse business and held memberships in the United States Trotting Association, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation and the American Junior Quarterhorse Association. In addition to training horses she also worked at the Delmar IGA Grocery Store and Keenan's Costume Shop. She was a real people person and will be remembered for her kind and happy-go-lucky attitude. Her grandchildren were her greatest accomplishment in life, as she was so proud of every one of them. She learned to appreciate nature while spending time at the beach or working in her yard and beautiful flowerbeds. Mrs. Hastings is survived by a son, Steve Drummond and his wife Kathy of Laurel; three daughters, Linda Hopkins of Delmar, Shelly Drummond of Pennsylvania, and Teresa Fitzpatrick of Perryville, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Kimberly, Brian, Jackie, Tyler, Nicole, Michael, Tiffany, Dale, Nicholas and Cody; two sisters, Barbara Ann Justice of Salisbury and Patty Radcliff of Princess Anne; two brothers, Gary Ward of Augusta, Georgia and Donnie Ward of Lewes, Delaware; and a special niece, Angela; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Hastings and her twin son and daughter, Richard and Diane Drummond that passed away at a young age. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Eddie Pusey, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Following the committal service at the cemetery, the family would like to invite family and friends to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Delmar V.F.W.
