Betty Lee Chew, 88, of Delmar, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at her home in Delmar. She was born on January 18, 1925 in Delmar, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth Cordrey. Betty liked spending time with her family, and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Wellington "Pete" Chew; two sons, William Chew of Hebron and Bryan Chew (Coleen) of Delmar; a daughter, Sharon Murphy (Bill) of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Brandon Chew, Ronnie Chew, Janet Acosta, and Billy Murphy; seven great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Banks of Delmar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi Wiles and Mary Long. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
