NEWARK- Betty Bradford Barbely, 91, of Newark, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at her home. Raised in the Newark area, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Maizie Bradford. She was a member of Bowen United Methodist Church in Newark. She was a stay-at-home mother to her six children, a homemaker and helpmate to her husband, Robert, who owned and operated Barbely's Grocery Store for more than 35 years. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Wayne and Gale Barbely of Florida, Carol and Chester Jones of Newark, Glenda Tingle of Parsonsburg, J.C. and Pat Barbely of Newark, Janice and Donnie Shockley of Snow Hill, and Russell and Sandy Barbely of Newark; 12 grandchildren, Troy Barbely, Judy Cowger, Lewis Jones, Gary Allen Tingle, Gwen Tingle, Robbie Barbely, Adam Barbely, Bruce Shockley, Scot Shockley, Russell Barbely, Jr., Nicholas Barbely, and Matthew Barbely; 7 great-grandchildren, Casey Hickman, Kelly Cowger, Travis Cowger, Hannah Jones, Kayla Barbely, Justin Shockley, and Jenna Shockley; 2 great-great grandchildren, Kylee and Bristol Hickman; a sister, Mary Louise Bounds; a sister-in-law, Lola Marie Bradford; a brother-in-law, Earl Barbely; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends from the Betty Boop Club, Gladys, Ina, Freda, Annie, and Diane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Lewis Barbely; a grandson, Chester Lee Jones; a brother, Hilton Bradford; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Barbely; a brother-in-law, Tommy Bounds; and her father and mother in law, Lewis and Dovey Barbely. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Bowen United Methodist Church in Newark, where friends may call from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Reverend Dr. K.C. Lee and Reverend Kenneth Elligson will officiate. Interment will follow in Bowen Methodist Cemetery in Newark.
