MARDELA SPRINGS- Beatrice N. Catlin, 93, of Mardela Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 26, 1920 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Bea was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church in Delmar, where for many years she tended to flowers planted in front of the church. In appreciation for her years of hard work keeping the flowers beautiful, Faith Baptist dedicated the rose garden to her by adding a special plaque and naming it "Aunt Bea's Garden". She was also a member of AARP, the Happy Timer's club, a local homemaker group and the Wicomico County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed serving the community alongside her husband Irvin at various functions of the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company. She worked several jobs during her early lifetime, but none more important than being a homemaker and raising her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and always put others needs before her own. She is survived by her children, Marlene and Burley Slate of Mardela Springs; Milton and Michele Catlin of Sharptown and Vaughn and Patsy Catlin of Mardela Springs; grandchildren, Laura her husband Jeff Turner, Brandon Catlin, Nathan Catlin, Nicholas Chamberlain, and Kristen Catlin; great-grandchildren, Elaina Claire Owens, Luke Owens, Lucas Turner, and Brant Catlin. She will be missed by her favorite pet dog of 12 years, Jesse. Many thanks for the hours of attention and tender care provided by her team of caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Glen Catlin, who passed in 1985; five sisters, Blanche Elliott, Ella Mae McCarson, Gladys Banks, Lavaughn Waisner, and Alda Church; two brothers, Glen Church and Thomas Church. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Reverends Ken Johnson and Wayne Holland will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Mardela Memorial Cemetery.
