Barbara J. Simon, 77, of Laurel, died Wednesday, August 22, 2013 at her home in Laurel. She was born September 11, 1935 in Chester, PA, a daughter of the late Leon Joseph Jurkowski and Louise Jurkowski Pringle. Barbara worked at DuPont in her younger days before leaving to raise her family. As her boys were growing up she was a volunteer parent in many capacities such as the Delmar Little League and Cub Scouts, just to name a few. She volunteered for many years at the Good Samaritan Shop in Laurel as well. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Redeemer in Delmar. She was a wonderful cook, a cat lover and an avid reader as well. She is survived by three sons, Michael Simon and Bruce Simon, both of Laurel, and Paul Simon and his wife, Cherie of Salisbury; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Simon, Michael Ray Simon, Chelsea Simon and Ally Simon; and a sister, Denise Pringle of Arlington, VA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Simon, who passed in 2010. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Committal services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Georgetown.
