Obituary

Barbara Mae Didrickson, age 85, of Snow Hill, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in the home in Snow Hill where she was born on December 9, 1921. As she passed she was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Snow Hill, a daughter of the late Herman J. Ardis and Ella Northam Ardis. Barbara was a graduate of Snow Hill High School in the Class of 1938. Following high school, she graduated from the University of Maryland Nursing School, College Park in 1945. She worked as a Registered Nurse for the former US Public Health Service for about 10 years and was transferred to various locations, including Boston, Baltimore and Washington State. She was a member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. Traveling and gardening were some of her favorite hobbies. However, she truly lived her life for her family and church. She is survived by her sister-in-law and special caregiver, Kathleen Ardis, with whom she lived; 4 nieces and nephews, whom she treated as if they were her own children, Phyllis A. Lank and her husband, Gale of Snow Hill, Bert N. Ardis of Charleston, South Carolina, Steven J. Ardis and his wife, Debi of Snow Hill and David W. Ardis and his wife, Becky of Snow Hill; and 2 cousins, Ralph V. Ardis and his wife, Doris of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Lenora Grandberg of Clemson, South Carolina. Also surviving her are 6 grand nieces and nephews; 3 great grand nieces and nephews, and 2 close friends, Pat Dennis and Elsie Showell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George T. Didrickson, who passed in 1982, and a brother, Albert Northam Ardis, who passed in 1988. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Whatcoat Cemetery in Snow Hill. The Reverend Sherwood McGrath will officiate.
