It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Sue Bare, age 88, on Friday, July 3, 2026. Born on February 21, 1938, in Harlan, Kentucky, Barbara's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and love for family, friends, and animals. She spent her early years in Kentucky before moving to Willards, where she lived for 65 years, and eventually to Pine Bluff in Salisbury, Maryland, for the last 13 years.

She had a special fondness for animals, often delighting in good snake stories and playfully teasing those who were afraid of them. Her love for dessert, particularly vanilla ice cream, was known to all; she had a unique habit of eating ice cream first, savoring every delightful bite.

Barbara is survived by her loving son, William "Jay" Bare (Norma); cherished grandchildren, Nikki Bare and Cole Vanderbyl; great-grandson, Jeffery Ayers; great-great grandson, Jeffery Ayers, IV; along with her nephews, Carmen Yates and Jerry Yates, and nieces, Cathy Yates and Yvonne Hastings; and her special caretaker, Ebony Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora Yates; and brothers, Roy Yates (Mae) and Henry Yates (Shirley).

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the funeral home from 1-2 pm.

In memory of Ms. Bare, contributions may be sent to Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 101 E. Delaware Avenue, Delmar, DE 19940, this contribution will benefit the residents at the facility.
