Obituary

B. Randall (Randy) Wheeler, 76, passed away on March 17, 2023 in Delmar, MD after suffering from Alzheimer's dementia for several years. Prior to his illness Randall, was a fun loving, joke telling, avid University of Georgia Bulldog fan. The one way to get on his bad side was to disparage the Bulldogs. He loved country music, and his favorite thing to do was to play the guitar with his brother Andy and sing all of the old country music songs they knew. He loved to hunt and play golf with his friends. Randall loved his family and was most happy when everyone got together and celebrated with a big country meal. Randall was a Christian and made a profession of faith at the age of nine at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Watkinsville, GA. He was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Temple in Salisbury, MD and served with Pastor Leto in the church visitation program until his health prevented his participation. He loved helping with the church's Annual Plow Days Celebration. He was a loving father to his children Jennifer and Randy and a doting grandfather to his grandson Nicholas. Jennifer was his devoted caregiver during his illness. She made sure her father was well cared for during his decline. He is preceded in death by his father Larry D. Wheeler, Sr. and mother, Evie E. Manders Wheeler, his sister Carolyn Wheeler Thornton (Bobby), brothers Larry D. Wheeler, Jr. and John Curtis Wheeler (Cathy). He is survived by his children Jennifer Elaina Wheeler of Delmar, MD and Randall James Wheeler of Charlotte N.C, and their mother Margaret Layfield Wheeler, Delmar, MD and his grandson Sergeant Nicholas Jordan Powell, US Marine Corp, stationed in Bolivia, sisters Opal R. Wheeler Bunce, Athens, GA and Susan E. Wheeler Combs (Roger), Linden, TN, brother Andy C. Wheeler (Andrea), Watkinsville, GA and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Randall graduated from Oconee County High School in 1964 and the University of Georgia College of Agriculture Department of Poultry Science in 1968. He was in the UGA ROTC program and after graduation entered the Army for basic training and spent 4 years in the Army Reserve. He was employed by Perdue Poultry, Inc. in Salisbury, MD for more than 20 years and employed until his retirement as a pharmaceutical sales representative by Intervet Inc./Schering-Plough Animal Health which eventually merged with Merck Animal Health USA. A memorial service will be held at the Salisbury Baptist Temple in Salisbury, Md. on April 1, 2023. Visitation will be at 3:30 pm and the service at 4:30 pm. A second memorial service will be held at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Watkinsville, GA on April 5, 2023. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 am, and the service at 11:00 am.
