Anna Mae Rounds, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the age of 82, in Delmar, Delaware. She was born on September 15, 1943, in Salisbury, Maryland, to the late Ralph O. and Mildred Wilson Owens. Anna Mae lived a special life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her community.
Anna Mae graduated from Wicomico High School (WiHi) with the class of 1961 and earned a degree in Sociology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1979. Her impressive career began as a teacher of U.S. Government and History at Chincoteague High School from 1980 to 1985. Following her passion for real estate, she became a part owner of the Century 21 Real Estate Office in Chincoteague, where she made lasting contributions.
Her journey later took her to Florida, where she navigated a successful career with the IRS in Jacksonville while attending law school at Florida Coastal School of Law. Anna Mae became a licensed attorney in both Florida and Maryland in 1999 and practiced family and estate law for over 13 years on the Eastern Shore in Somerset County. She was recognized for her exceptional commitment to service, receiving an award for providing the most pro bono work in the State of Maryland. A strong advocate for gun rights, Anna Mae fought passionately for fair legislation to ensure compliance and fairness for all Maryland citizens. She single handedly fought the system and won the battle with the courts to allow all who qualify the right to apply for and receive a concealed carry permit.
A long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel, Anna Mae enjoyed swimming at the Western Sussex Boys and Girls Club in Seaford, embraced the joy of the beach, and loved camping with family. She was an avid collector of decoys from local Chincoteague carvers. Throughout her life, she demonstrated an incredible work ethic and resilience, always emerging from difficult times with invaluable lessons learned.
Anna Mae is survived by her devoted husband, William Theodore Rounds, to whom she married on December 9, 1971; her children, Kimberly Doyle (Kara Walker) and Theodore Rounds (Tabatha); her brother, Warren Owens (Rose Ellen); and her loving grandchildren, Gina Doyle, Noel Baker, Darin Doyle, Christopher Rounds, Cynthia-Rae Deel, Keirsten Doyle, and Patrick Doyle. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a special wife, mother, grandmother, sister, co-worker, and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, Anna Mae was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherin Lynn Dawley, a son, Ralph B. Doyle, Jr, a brother, Rodd Q. Owens, her stepmother, June Dukes Owens and step brother, Al John Dukes.
A celebration of Anna Mae's life will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 W. Market St, Laurel, DE, where a visitation will be held from 12:0o to 1;00. Following the services, the family welcomes all for a time of food and fellowship, to be held downstairs in the church community hall.
