Obituary

Anna Haubert "Anne" Kinstler, 84, of Snow Hill died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Snow Hill, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Wilson Haubert and Blanche Elizabeth Bowen Haubert Douglas. She was a member of Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill, where she served on the board of trustees and was chairperson of the cemetery committee. She and her late husband, Richard E. Kinstler, photographed the tombstones in the cemetery, documented them and placed them in an album for future reference. Much rubbing was necessary in order to make legible the names and dates on the stones. In conjunction with this, she wrote and produced a pamphlet containing the rules for the cemetery. Her interest in history of the church resulted in her writing a document on the subject and that continues to be produced today and shared with visitors who attend or pass through as members of tour groups. With her knowledge and interest in church history she served a number of years as historian of the church. What she will be remembered for the most was that of church organist. She also played at many other churches and was gracious in sharing her musical talent with many in Snow Hill and the surrounding communities. She formerly held memberships in the Worcester County Historical Society, the Furnacetown Foundation and the Worcester County Garden Club. She was a volunteer docent at the Julia A. Purnell Museum. Having an interest in genealogy, she spent many volunteer hours in the 1980's indexing genealogical files for the Snow Hill branch of the Worcester County Library. She was proud to have been a descendant of Henry Bishop, founding father of the town of Snow Hill as well as sharing a family connection with the Rev. Francis Makemie, founder of Presbyterianism in America. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Elizabeth Kitchens and her husband, Earl of Bishopville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Moyer and her husband, Jack of Snow Hill and Spc. Justin Richard Gorum of Bishopville, who is presently serving in Iraq; two great-grandchildren, John Richard Adkins of Snow Hill and Bridget Elizabeth Gorum of Bishopville; and two step great-grandchildren, Shannon and Kenton Moyer of Snow Hill. She also leaves behind her devoted friend, J. Huey Brown of Snow Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Richard E. Kinstler, who passed in 1995; a beloved sister, Shirley Elizabeth Calvarese; and a brother, Alfred Wilson Haubert. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill. The Revs. Debra Latture and Reuel Howell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Makemie Memorial Cemetery.
