Obituary

Ann Elizabeth (Tarpley) Rose, a beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Ann, born in Brooklyn, New York, to proud parents George Burnell Tarpley and Mary Eileen (Murray Wilson) Tarpley, was the youngest of six children. During World War II, she spent her early grade school years on a farm in Jacobstown, NJ. Near the end of the war, her family returned to their home in Prospect Place in Brooklyn, where they resided for many happy years. Ann married Morgan T. Rose in 1965 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Ann and Morgan moved from Brooklyn to Sharptown, Maryland in 1969 after Ann's parents relocated there. Throughout her life, Ann loved music and had a beautiful voice. In her early years, Ann sang professionally in New York City and also traveled to Bermuda as part of a cruise ship entertainment group. Even much later in life, whenever she sang, people would stop and notice. In New York, she was trained and employed as an executive secretary. After she moved to the Eastern Shore, she worked as an executive secretary at Dulaney Foods in Salisbury. From 1975 to 1987, she is remembered fondly for her work as a Media Specialist and Classroom Aide at Northwestern Elementary School. This job allowed her to share her lifelong love of books and reading. From 1987 to her retirement, she worked as Bank Teller, Loan Administrator, and Branch Manager at the Farmers Bank of Mardela Springs, Peninsula Bank and PNC Bank in Sharptown. Ann was also a talented artist. She loved painting landscapes and flowers and creating beautiful crafts to gift to her family and friends. Ann will be lovingly remembered by her son, Robert (Bob) Rose and his wife Sandy of Sharptown; her daughters, Mary Rose Atlas-Terry and her husband Steve of Millersville, MD, and Elizabeth Rose Armentrout and her husband David of Parsonsburg, MD, as well as her grandchildren Coltman Fletcher and his wife Courtney, Gunner Fletcher and his wife Christy, Morgan Terry, and Jenna Armentrout. She will also be missed by her sister(s)-in-law, Delores Tarpley and Patricia Rodden. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and great grant children. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morgan Thomas Rose; and her siblings George C. Tarpley (Sharptown), Richard Wilson (Kings Park, NY) John Wilson (Levittown, NY), Patricia Record (Henderson, TN) and Robert J. Wilson (Hampton, VA). In honor of Ann's life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, DE. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD.
