Anita Ruth Schauer Darby, 86, beloved wife, sister, aunt, friend and homemaker, passed away peacefully at her home in Sharptown on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born in Baltimore, moving to Sharptown on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1947 with her now late parents, Donald M. and Georgia C. Schauer. She graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1955 where she received the DAR Award of the Samuel Chase Chapter. Anita went on to receive a certificate from the City of New York School of Speedwriting. She began her career at Photo-Lite, and went on to work for the Wicomico County Board of Education for many years. With a strong work ethic, she also spent her summers at Cope's Candy Company. After retiring she worked as a town clerk for the Commissioners of Sharptown. Anita was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, having served as choir member, Sunday School teacher, faithful youth leader, secretary of the administrative council, member of the committees of the administrative council and building fund treasurer. Anita shared 49 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, Donald M. Darby, residing in Sharptown where they carved out a lifetime of memories as a couple, he passed just two days after her at their home. She is survived by her sister, Donna C. Duke and her husband Gilbert of Virginia; nephew, William Martin Allen and his wife Elizabeth; great nieces, Jessica Norris and her husband Malcolm, and Bethany Allen and her husband Joseph McCormick; great nephews, Nicholas Allen and his wife Melissa and Mitchell Allen; great-great nephew, Malcolm Mead Norris, III; and many other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great nephew, Justus Allen. A memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Darby will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Church in Sharptown, Maryland. where a visitation will be held from 1:00 to 1:30. In memory of Mrs. Darby, contributions may be sent to Mt. Vernon Church, P.O. Box 203, Sharptown, MD 21861.
