Anita Catherine Heacook, 91, of Delmar, Delaware, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes. She was born on September 9, 1931 in Paterson, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Feeney) Carr. She graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing School in 1955. She worked throughout the states of NY, NJ, PA, DE and MD as a nurse. In 1956 she married Joseph B. Heacook and they had 7 children. She is survived by children, Maryalice (Fernando) Berrios of TN; Thomas Heacook of NJ; Kathleen Heacook of DE; Anita (Dan) Feaster of MD; and Tracey West-Ney from a previous relationship with their son, Matthew Heacook; daughter-in-law Susan Heacook; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister Marguerite (Roger) Schwartz of FL; brother Kevin (Margaret) Carr of TX; and close friends from nursing school, Isabelle Cooper of NY and Ruth Idequchi from Hawaii. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by an infant son (1972); her husband, Joseph B. Heacook, Sr. (1992); daughter Bethann Heacook (2017); son Joseph B. Heacook, Jr. (2020); and son Cpl. Keith A. Heacook (2021). She was also preceded in death by a sister Carol Garth; brother-in-law Alpha Garth; sister-in-law Dolores Carr; and brother Thomas Carr. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
