Laurel – Alma G. Vickers, 93, of Laurel, passed away at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury on Monday, March 16, 2009. Mrs. Vickers was the daughter of the late Andrew and Gertrude (Hudson) Campbell. Her husband, Edgar L. Vickers, died in 1978. Born in Frankford, Delaware, Mrs. Vickers was a homemaker who was known for her lemon meringue pies. She was very thoughtful in sending birthday cards and never missed the opportunity to share them with family and friends. She also dedicated her life to taking care of "Sonny." In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her twin brother, Andrew Campbell; a son-in-law, Ronald L. McDowell; and a grandson, Ryan McDowell. She is survived by two sons, Franklin "Sonny" Smack of Dover and Leland Vickers of Shawnee, KS; one daughter, Dorothea E. McDowell of Laurel; a sister, Lettie Quillen, of Dagsboro; three grandchildren, Rhonda McDowell, Geoffrey Vickers, and Jonathan Vickers; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Laurel Church of Christ, 1010 S. Central Avenue, Laurel, Delaware, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Mr. Wayne Mathis and Mr. Ian Drucker will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Millville Cemetery, Millville, Delaware. Arrangements are in the care of the Short Funeral Home of Delmar, Delaware.
