Alma Lee Smith, 96, of Delmar passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born on September 5, 1920 in Delmar, a daughter of the late Doda and I. Pearl Hearn. Mrs. Smith grew up in Delmar, and as a child could be found playing marbles with her friends on Elizabeth Street. She married the love of her life, Ross Marvel Smith, on January 23, 1942. They were married for 74 years. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother and a wonderful cook. On Sunday mornings, the Smith family would walk to church together. She was a long time, active member and Sunday school teacher of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Delmar, which later merged with St. Stephen's United Methodist Church. She and her husband initiated a group in Wicomico County to offer education for special needs children. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Adah Chapter #5, where she served as past worthy matron and was a 50 year member of the chapter. She worked as branch manager of the Bank of Delmar- Pine Knoll Branch, and after retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Florida with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Moore of Delmar; a niece, Pat Outten; and a nephew, Mike Gosnell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ross Marvel Smith; a daughter, Frances Anne "Frannie" Smith; sisters, Jean Livingston and Dolly Anne Brittingham; and brothers, Edward Hearn and Robert Hearn. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Lori Twilley will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mrs. Smith, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
