LAUREL- On the morning of June 1, 2011, (Alice) Madeline McDaniel Horne, lost her battle with cancer at her home in Laurel, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Salisbury on April 22, 1944 as Alice Madeline McDaniel to the late Evelyn Marie McDaniel and Ira S. McDaniel, Sr. Madeline was raised in Girdletree and graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1963. She attended Faulkner State Community College in Alabama and attended classes at International Seminary. She worked as a bookkeeper for 38 years and was a devoted housewife. She was dedicated to helping home school her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, going to church and being with family. Madeline is survived by her husband, Carl Horne; daughters, Susan Nelson and her husband, James, II, and Carla Tilghman and her husband, Robert; 9 grandchildren, James, Rachel, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Sarah and Abigail Nelson, Nichole and Darla Gavarinski, and Brandon Tilghman; 2 great grandchildren, Alexia Dill and Kayden Baker; honorary son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Walter) and Bena Horne; 2 brothers, Ira McDaniel, Jr. of New Jersey and Richard McDaniel of Connecticut; a sister, Evelyn Northan of Alabama; 6 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Laurel Wesleyan Church, in Laurel, where family and friends may call from 2:30 to 3:00. Pastor Ken Deusa will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Account for Madeline Horne at Wilmington Trust, Laurel branch, to offset medical expenses incurred during her illness.
