SNOW HILL- Alfred Lee Larson, known to all as "Sonny," 82, of Snow Hill, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born December 17, 1933 in Salisbury, a son of the late Anchor and Eleanor Stevens Larson. Sonny graduated from Snow Hill High School with the class of 1951. In his younger days he attended Bates Memorial United Methodist Church and more recently had attended Whatcoat United Methodist Church. He enjoyed a 38 year career working with the State Highway Administration of Maryland as a Resident Maintenance Engineer and retired in 1995. He was an active member of the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for over 63 years. He spent 30 years as the chief of SHVFD and was currently acting as President and was recently inducted into the Maryland Firefighter's Hall of Fame. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and raise hunting dogs. In his early days he also enjoyed driving and racing hydroplanes. He was a lifelong NY Yankees fan and stuck with them through the good and the bad. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. The family sends a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Richard Henson Cancer Center, the Fresenius Kidney Care Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion given to him through his illness. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Joyce Dryden Larson; daughters, Donna Larson Nicholson of Salisbury and Linda Larson Payne and husband, Robyn of Snow Hill; beloved granddaughter, Brittany Evans of Snow Hill; a cousin, Billy Layfield and wife, Debbie of Snow Hill; close friends, Ray Wooten, Jr., who was like a son to him, and Jimmy Landon; and his special dog, "Mac." He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and his brothers and sisters in fire service at SHVFD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Timmons and Charlotte "Skeet" Ramsey. A firemen's funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Andrew Frick will officiate. Interment will follow at Whatcoat Cemetery in Snow Hill. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Snow Hill VFD, P.O.
