Obituary

GIRDLETREE- Alfred "Al" E.B. Jones, III, 85, of Girdletree, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at his home in Girdletree. He was born December 5, 1925 in Baltimore, a son of the late Alfred E.B. Jones, Jr. and Willie Shockley Jones. Al proudly served his country in the US Navy where he spent many years as Postal Clerk, Petty Officer First Class, until retirement. He also retired after many years of service as a mail carrier for the USPS, where he worked in Snow Hill and sometimes Berlin. He was an active member of Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill, American Legion Post 67 in Snow Hill, Sinepuxent Masonic Lodge #193, AF&AM in Snow Hill and a life member of Girdletree Volunteer Fire Department, Girdletree Fire Police and VFW Post 194 in Salisbury. He is survived by 2 daughters, Lynn S. Austin and her husband, Robert of Salisbury and Vivian E. Porter of New Mexico; a son, Eric Louis Sick of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; 2 half brothers, David Jones and Paul Jones, both of Colorado; 6 grandchildren, Pratt Dukes and his wife, Annette, Robbie Dukes, Jenny Dennis and her husband, Charlie, Bobbi Cook and her husband. Michael, Christian Sick and Erin Powley and her husband, Jason; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a very good friend, George Lee Pruitt and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Evans Jones, who passed in 2006, and a daughter-in-law, Cory Sick. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend Debra Latture will officiate. Interment with a Masonic service will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church, c/o Building Fund, P.O.
