Alan Carl Smith, 82, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at TidalHealth Peninisula Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Born in Owings Mills, MD on December 4, 1941, Alan lived a full and vibrant life surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late James and Rachel May (Taylor) Smith. Alan graduated from Delmar High School with the class of '59. He was a skilled auto and body repair man who worked in his younger years for Salisbury Lincoln Mercury and Winston's Body Shop and retired s a dedicated employee with the MD State Highway Administration. Alan was known for his passion for building and collecting car models, restoring old Buddy L and Tonka toy trucks, and going for leisurely Sunday rides with his devoted wife of 62 years, Darlene Dean Smith. Alan couldn't resist a good auction or yard sale and had an eye for a deal. He cherished the moments he spent with his daughters, Tammy Krause (Doug) and Michelle Parker (Merrill), and his grandchildren, Kali Krause, Marissa Lopez, and Natalie Parker, as well as his great-grandchild, Colten Langford. He was very much loved by all of his family and friends. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Jimmy, and sisters, Violet, Rose and JoAnn. In his memory, a celebration of Alan's life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Short Funeral Home, in Delmar, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, 27765 Nanticoke Rd, Salisbury, MD 21801, in honor of Alan's unwavering spirit. Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will forever be cherished. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was truly loved.
