Walter W. Shockley

November 10, 1940 - May 3, 2022

Walter W. Shockley, “Buddy”, 81, a lifelong resident of Snow Hill, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on the family farm in Snow Hill on November 10, 1940, the son of the late James A. and Bertie Pearl (Townsend) Shockley. Buddy graduated from Snow Hill High School with the class of 1958. He retired after many years of service as a chief lineman for Choptank Electric. Buddy’s first love was farming, and he loved growing and selling butterbeans and corn at his produce stand. He loved to tinker on things and building and racing model boats with his son Eddie was a favorite memory. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved hunting, target shooting, gardening, fishing, and crabbing. He also loved watching the hummingbirds and tending to his bluebird boxes. Buddy was currently a member of Kleg Grange Fellowship Church in Stockton and had attended several other churches through the years. He will be remembered as a friend to everyone and a loving husband, father, and caregiver. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Bolen) Shockley; a special niece who was like a daughter to him, Lynette Phillips Menke and her husband Clint of Utah; step-son, Buddy Mills and fiancé Julie Owens of Salisbury; step-granddaughter, Hannah Mills; special cousins, Anna Lee Shockley, Sandra Shockley English and Bunk Townsend; and many other cousins. He is also survived by his favorite dog, “Lucy.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Indiana (Phillips) Shockley, who passed in 2000; a son, Edward “Eddie” James Shockley, who passed in 2013; and a step-daughter, Bonnie June Ruark, who passed in 2012. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which will begin at 11:00. The Reverend Donald Bailey will officiate. The family requests casual attire for those that come to honor Buddy. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Snow Hill. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
