Terry Scott Lankford

May 12, 1947 - April 21, 2021

Terry Scott Lankford, 73, of Mardela Springs, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born May 12, 1947 in Salisbury, a son of the late Lynn W. and Irene E. (Henry) Lankford. Terry grew up in Sharptown and graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1966. Terry had a proud family history of military service and after graduation honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt from 1967 to 1971. After his discharge from the Navy, Terry took a job at Delmarva Power and retired as a draftsman after 38 years of service. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was around the water, fishing or on his boat with this closest family and friends. While he owned many boats through the years, his most recent and favorite boat was “Therapy.” His other form of “therapy” was spending time relaxing with his wife at their summer home in Chincoteague. He also enjoyed NASCAR and had wonderful memories of traveling to Talledega, Charlotte and several other races. Terry had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cat “Zoey” and dog “Mya.” He will be remembered for his wonderful and warm personality and the kindness he spread wherever he went. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carletta S. Lankford; sons, Adam Scott Lankford of Hebron and Andrew Lankford (Jen) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Ethan Scott Lankford and Marlie Lankford; a sister, Jackie Lankford of Sharptown; step-mother, Margaret Lankford of Sharptown; sister-in-law, Wilma Lee Jones (Ralph) of Bishopville; a niece, Nancy Gambrill; nephews, Danny Gambrill, Joseph Gambrill and Jeff Jones; and a very special uncle, Paul Lankford of California. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Firemen’s Cemetery in Sharptown. Pastor Evan Clark will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Terry’s memory to support disabled veterans by visiting https://heroeshaven.org/ or by sending it to Heroes Haven, P.O. Box 184, Sharptown, MD 21861. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
