Nancy Viola Hitch

Nancy Viola Hitch (Boston), age 86, of Seaford, DE, passed away suddenly at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital on August 22, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Boston. In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Walter Boston, Jr. (Catherine). She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William S. Hitch, Sr., son William S. Hitch, Jr. (Wendy), daughter Debra K. Hitch, granddaughter Lauren E. Champlin (Jordan), and grandson Michael A. Hitch. Nancy graduated from P.S. duPont High School, Class of 1949. She was previously employed by Hercules Powder Company in Wilmington, DE, and later, Wilmington Trust Company in Georgetown, DE. She was an active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel, DE where she served as chairperson of the Church Altar Guild and chairperson of the St. Philip’s knitting group. Nancy served two terms as president of the Episcopal Church Women Diocese of Delaware and served on the Diocesan Council. She was a charter member of the Laurel Lioness Club and served as past president of the Laurel Lioness Club. Nancy enjoyed needlework, baking, and spending time with her family. A memorial service will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel, DE on Saturday, August 25, at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon. A private burial will take place later that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 600 S Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
