James “Jim” H. Elliott, Sr., 79, of Bridgeville, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford. He was born on December 21, 1941, in Salisbury, a son of the late Wallace J. Elliott and Elizabeth “Betty” Delano Elliott. Jim graduated from Delmar High School with the class of 1959. As a born salesman, he worked his entire career in sales and retired after 25 years of service as a Sales Executive for Proctor and Gamble. Jim cared about his community and was always active coaching in the Delmar Little League Baseball, Pee Wee basketball and officiating high school football for 20 years. Jim also was a member of the Little League Senior Girls Softball World Series Committee. He served several terms as the Mayor of Fenwick Island, for many years he was involved with the Sussex County Association of Towns and was an active board member of the State of Delaware Nutrient Management Program. He loved the outdoors, boating, and mostly all sports. He was an avid golfer and a member of Hooper’s Landing Golf Course. He will be remembered as not only a loving, but a fun-loving caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many. Jim never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol T. Elliott; son, James “Jay” H. Elliott, Jr and wife, Marcia; daughter, Sherry Parsons; grandchildren, Kim Elliott (Vason), Alissa Tomcyzk (Jake), Caroline Parsons and Andrew Parsons; step grandchildren Jessica Marine and Mark Wilson (Jamie) and great grandson, Ian Elliott-Beddingfield; brother, Ronnie Elliott (Dorothy); sister-in-law, Pat Elliott; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathryn; and a brother, William “Bill” Elliott. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mr. Elliott, contributions may be sent to the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, 39375 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
