Elizabeth O. Fisher Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elizabeth O. Fisher, 98, of Laurel passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Acts Manor House Retirement Community in Seaford surrounded by her family. She was born on the family farm located on Hearn’s Crossroads and Gordy Road in Laurel on June 10, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Maude Gertrude Calhoun Oliphant and Howard B. Oliphant. She learned the value of hard work at an early age growing up and working with her parents on the farm. “Lib” as she was fondly known by family and friends graduated with the Laurel High School Class of 1943. Upon graduation, she went on to attend Goldey-Beacom Business School and ultimately began working as an office manager. She married Willard Hall Fisher on November 25, 1945 and they went on to have a family together. During her career, she worked for Montgomery Ward in Baltimore, Southern States, Chipman Shoes, and Bruce J. Farrelly Plumbing and Heating, all in Laurel. In her younger years she was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Laurel where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, and treasurer. She later joined the First Baptist Church in Delmar where she was an active member and oldest member of the adult Sunday School class. After the passing of her husband, she enjoyed traveling with Haroldine Shaner and Kendall Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Fisher Pierce and her husband Glenn of Fenwick Island; a son, Willard H. Fisher, Jr. of McLean, VA; and grandchildren, Jennifer Pierce Thomas and her husband JJ and Ryan Thomas Pierce of Washington D.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard H. Fisher, Sr; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Pierce; and brothers, William Edgar Oliphant, Robert Lee Oliphant, and Fred Calhoun Oliphant. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 12:00 pm. at First Baptist Church, 501 Bi-State Blvd in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
