David Allen Insley Sr.

June 4, 1939 - April 18, 2022

David Allen Insley, Sr., 82, of Mardela Springs passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 4, 1939, in Mardela Springs, the son of the late Virginia Elizabeth (Riggin) Insley and Elmer Wesley Insley. David graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1957 where he played on the soccer team. He retired after over 25 years of service as a plant supervisor with Delmarva Power in Vienna and was a proud member of the Vingt Cinq Club. He was a true family man who supported his children and grandchildren in all of their sports and extracurricular activities. David helped bring soccer to the youth of Mardela Springs by starting the Mardela Youth Soccer Program. He was a very talented woodworker and used his talents to make amazing rocking horses, furniture pieces and other things for his family. He always made trips to the summer house in Chincoteague with his family special. He loved the outdoors, playing golf and working in his yard was his therapy. He was a long-time member and past master of Temple Lodge 170 in Mardela Springs and the Maryland Grand Lodge, past president of the Mardela Town Commission, a member of the Adkins Historical Society and a Civil War and history buff. He will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Dana E. Insley of Mardela Springs, and Leslie Insley-Smith (Doug) of Bishopville; grandchildren, Mikayla Insley-Evans, Elijah Insley-Evans, Ian Insley, Shane Insley, Caitlyn Ardis, Emily Cropper, and Lexi Williams; great-grandchildren, Layla, Kashton, Ian, Jr., Berklee, Hailey, and Riggs; and a special friend, Nell Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Madeline (Dise) Insley; son, David A. Insley, Jr.; and sisters, Marie Watson, Charlotte Willey, Gertrude Insley, Frances Muir, and Betty Littleton. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Mardela Memorial Cemetery in Mardela Springs, Maryland. In memory of Mr. Insley, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
