December 30, 1931 - September 1, 2021
Carol Elizabeth Walters, 89, a resident of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her four children, Nancy (Bill) Weller, Thomas (Trish) Walters, Janis (Jack) Dike, and Jeff (Claudia) Walters, 7 grandchildren whom she adored, Janey, Jace, Jansen, Josie, Benjamin, Jenna and Meredith; sister, Phyllis Stalter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Vernon J. “Cork” Walters; and parents, Arnold C. and Dorothea Krause Nedell. Carol was born in North Tonawanda, New York. She was a twirler in high school, and met and married the love of her life, her trumpet player, Cork, in 1953. They had two children in New York, then relocated to Maryland in 1960, where they had two more children to complete their family. Carol’s life revolved around her husband, her family and her beautiful gardens. She and Cork were known for their gracious hospitality and entertaining. They loved ballroom dancing! She was an amazing homemaker and cook. She was an entrepreneur, selling handmade doll clothes and also beautifully decorated and delicious cakes. She was also a cake decorating instructor, teaching her talents to others. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her own suits for work and ballgowns for her conferences. She worked as an executive secretary for National Asphalt Pavement Association for several years. She loved spending time in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with Cork, going to the live musical theaters and shopping at the Amish markets. She loved her extensive doll collection. She also loved Rehoboth Beach, where they had a summer home. They eventually built a home in Lewes, DE. Soon after her retirement in 1992, she and Cork moved to their Lewes home permanently, where they became members of Bethel Methodist Church in Lewes. She was a huge Washington Football Team fan. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and recitals, and playing endless cards and games with them. She made friends everywhere she went and was loved by all who knew her. And her most favorite color was pink, thus her online name was “Pink Girl.” So, if you have a favorite pink outfit, please wear it to the service! A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W 4th Street, Lewes DE 19958 on Saturday, September 11. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00-12:00 noon, with a service following. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. The Reverend James Penuel will officiate. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it is requested that all attendees wear face coverings at the service and at the reception while not eating. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
