Marian L. Adkins

SNOW HILL- Marian L. Adkins, 75, of Snow Hill, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born on New Year’s Day in 1936, a daughter of the late Marion and Dorothy Hall. Marian retired from Edgehill Pharmacy in Salisbury where she worked as a sales clerk for many years. She loved being around people and also worked for a number of years at Pantry Pride. After retirement her passion was spending time at her loom at Furnace Town, where she was a master craftsman at weaving. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and cherished memories made taking various cruises. She and her husband had a fondness for cats and will be remembered for the time that they rescued many cats and were able to find homes for them with the assistance of Cat Connection in Ocean Pines. She will be missed greatly by family, friends and her dog “Daisey” and cat “Ink.” She is survived by her husband, James Willard Adkins. On Christmas day, they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Hope Carmean and her husband, Steve, and Faith Coleman and her husband, John, all of Snow Hill; 7 grandchildren, April Mariner, John Philip Coleman, Ben Coleman, Josh Coleman, James Carmean, Michael Carmean and Aaron Carmean; 2 great grandchildren, Jesse James Mariner and Malakai James Albert Carmean; a great granddaughter expected to be born soon; brother, Jim Hall of Upper Fairmount; and 2 sisters, Norma Chatham of Berlin and Frances Gannon and her husband, Bobby, of Fruitland. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wendy L. Adkins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00. The Reverends Andy Frick and Tom Northam will officiate. Interment will follow at Bates Memorial Cemetery in Snow Hill.
