DELMAR-James Gregory Budd, 64, of Delmar, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Pick's Disease. He was born October 20, 1949 in Salisbury, a son of the late James K. "Kinsey" Budd and Dorothy "Dot" Greenwell. Greg graduated from Delmar High in 1967 before earning his degree in education at Wake Forest University. As education was an important part of Greg's life, he earned his Master's Degree in education from Salisbury University as well. He started his teaching career as a physical education teacher at Buckingham Elementary School. He moved to Delmar High where his career spanned 31 years as a teacher and guidance counselor before he retired in 2002. During his time at Delmar High he also was a coach and mentor for a variety of sports and spent some time as the Athletic Director as well. Greg was a sports enthusiast who loved the New York Yankees, golf and playing in many men's softball leagues through the years. He was a true family man who always made time for his kids' sports and rarely missed a game whether it be little league, high school or even college games. Memberships include St. Stephen's United Methodist Church and the Delmar Lions Club, where he remained active until his illness. His family and friends will remember him as an easy going, loving man with a positive attitude who was always willing to help those in need. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Budd; a son, Mickey Budd of Delmar; a daughter, Erin Budd DeHaven and her husband, Brad of Ashburn, VA; a brother, Gary Budd and his wife, Terry of Delmar; and many nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Budd. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 3:00. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will be private.
