Henry Peder Nielsen, 89, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Cadbury at Lewes. He was born on April 28, 1925 in Copenhagen, Denmark, a son of the late Peder and Hermine Nielsen. Mr. Nielsen was formerly of York, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years and the U.S. Air Force for seven years. During his time in the service, he was awarded the high altitude parachute jumping world record. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania and Bethany Lutheran Church in Salisbury, Maryland. After receiving a degree from Cornell University in engineering, he went on to work at Caterpillar in York, Pennsylvania. He is survived by two grandchildren, Anna Rose Fritz and her husband Jason of Millsboro, and Daniel Blue and his wife Allison of Pittsburgh; great grandchildren, Ethan Fritz, Jason Fritz, Jr., Isaac Blue, and a great grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathe Nielsen; a daughter, Kristine Blue; and two brothers. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 817 Camden Avenue in Salisbury. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Kevin Wackett will officiate.
