Phyllis Helen Brewington, 81, of Delmar, died on Friday, January 5, 2018 after complications from surgery. Phyllis was born on October 11, 1936 in Seaford, DE, a daughter of the late Emerson and Elizabeth Higgins. She graduated from Seaford High School and worked for Higgin's Milk, her father's business, when she was in high school. She enjoyed acting and attended drama school for four years. While her children were young, she enjoyed being a stay at home mother. She loved taking care of others and her children's friends were always welcome in her home. She was employed at DuPont in Seaford for a while. In her later career she enjoyed taking care of the mentally and physically handicapped as a home health nurse for the State of Maryland. She was always helping others. Phyllis loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping with her children and grandchildren. She was a lover of animals and cared for all of the stray cats and wildlife wherever she lived. Phyllis is survived by a brother, William (Pinky) Higgins, retired Salisbury Fire Chief; and her cousin, Charles Hurley of PA. Her children, son Jack Jester, wife Kay and their daughter, Kara and her husband Kyle; daughter LuCinda Anderson, her husband Greg and son, Zach Merrill; son, LeRoy Brewington, his wife Ann, and their children Maria and her husband Derrick, LeRoy, Heather, Brock, Steven and Katie; and a daughter, Twyla Marshall, her husband Mark and their children Aaron and Hannah. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, a niece, Kelly VanHorn; nephews, Lee and David Wilber; and her lifelong best friend, Betholine Woolford of Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Jester (d 1965); her companion of many years, Thomas Mack Jones (d 1999) of Berlin, MD; and her sister, Ruth Wilber. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at The Uprising Church, 204 E. Walnut Street, Hebron, Maryland.
