Gloria Marie Messick, 76, of Delmar, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her home. She was born on October 22, 1937, in Salisbury, Maryland, a daughter of the late Joel S. and Lola Marie Walker. "Tootsie," as she was fondly known by family and friends, loved all animals, especially cats. She worked at the Manhattan Shirt Factory, the Holly Center, and Shoney's Restaurant. She is survived by a daughter, Sally Yates and her husband Jerry of Delmar; a son, Jack Messick and his girlfriend, Pam of Richmond, Virginia; a grandson, Joel Yates and his wife Aurore; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Yates and Logan Neal; sisters-in-law, Mary A. Walker of Seaford, Mary K. Walker of Chesapeake, VA, and Mary G. Walker of Jacksonville, NC; a brother-in-law, Alex Travers of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Adele Hurley, Madeline Travers, and infant sister, Ruth; and four brothers, George Walker, Theodore Walker, Jack Walker and Reginald Walker. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar.
